What is Dermatology?
Dermatology is a type of medicine concerned with keeping skin healthy. Dermatologists provide regular skin checks (also called mole checks, cancer screenings, and full body skin exams) to track the growth of any spots of concern that may indicate cancer.
Dermatologists are also trained to treat skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, HS, and other skin issues which can cause pain and frustration. Some conditions are treated with in-office procedures, and others are treated with medicine that patients use at home.

Skin Cancer is the Most Common Form of Cancer in the United States
Skin is the largest organ in the human body, and our daily activities can increase the risk of developing skin cancer. Preventative measures like wearing sunscreen with at least 30 SPF and covering exposed skin when spending a lot of time outdoors help to reduce the risk of developing skin cancer. Attending regular skin checks with a provider trained to recognize and treat suspicious lesions is another part of preventative care.
Skin cancer is common, but it is also treatable. Depending on the type of lesion and your health history, your provider may recommend different treatments.
